HILLSIDE WORKSHOPS BENEFIT SOCIETY.

Tho annual meeting of the Hillside Workshops Sick Benefit Society was held in the reading room on Thursday. Mr T. Fausett presided, and 125 members were present. The secretary read the report and balance sheet, showing sickness for the year to the amount of 1897 days—an average of 8J days for each member of tho society. The receipt were £388 12s Gd, and tho expenditure £353. The balance, which was divided onions the members, amounted to 3s 6Jd per member. The election of officers for tho ensuing year resulted as follows: — President, Mr Morris Stevens; vice-president, Mr E. Dowland ;• secretary, Mr R. Farrant (reelected); treasurer, Mr G. Coxon; committee: fitting shop—Messrs J. Warrington and M. Moloney; smiths' shop—Messrs G. Black and' H. Wright; car shop—Messrs J. Loa.n, jun., and J. M'Neil; paint shop—Messrs H. Heads and W. Lewis; goods department—Messrs J. Loan, sen., and T. Christie; way and works Mr R. Crawford. Messrs R. Miehaelis, W Rogerson, J. Robinson, T. Leyland, W. Bates, A. Blackwood, A. Farrant, J. Hands, F. Evans, D. Whelan, W. Moore, and C. Standim were appointed sick visitors; Messrs H. Lawson, W. Lewis, and W. Mayo auditors; and Messrs T. Stothart and M. Thomson trustees. A vote of thanks to the retiring officers brought Vie meeting to a close.
