FIRES.
(Per-United Press Association.) PAHIATUA," August 9.
A fire broke out in G-illick's (hairdresser), Main " street, ' last night. Within 10 minutes the premises were enveloped in flames, which spread rapidly to the adjoining premises. Hannah (bootmaker) and Elliot (saddler) had barely time to save anything. The insurances were—On the building (owned by Mi- IS!7 C. Williams), £800 to £1000 in the, Liverpool and London and Globe; Gillick's stock, £150-in the Royal; Elliot's stock, . £250 (oflice unknown); Hannah's stock, valued at over £1000,- believed to be insured in the Alliance. The adjoining premises, the Wairarapa; Farmers' Co-operative Association, and Sandford were damaged to the extent of about £300 ea-ch. All the northern telegraph lines were damaged. The .fire started by the upsetting of a lamp.
PATEA, August 9.
Two houses owned by Mr A. Sinclair were destroyed by fire this morning. They were insured for £200 each.
