■WELLINGTON, January 23.

Tho Wellington- Racing Olub again eujoyed beautiful weather for its meeting, and between 5000 and 6000 persons were present. The racing was again of the best, and the fight between Daunt (the Cup winner) and Explosion was .worth... .a bare-footed pilgrimage ,to witness. The old system of working the totalisators was resorted to, and its reinstatement was much appreciated by the public. The sum of £11,452 was put through to-day, making £21,879 for the two days, or £3089 more than at the last Summer meeting. Results:

Red Lancer was the first to get away, but immediately, gave way to Rochester, and the latter led along the" back, with Volley and Red Lancer racing together, a length away. Fulmen next, and Cannonshot last. Rochester, pulling double, led round into the straight, and coming on full of running won easily by a length and a-half, with Volley a good third. Time, lhnin 563-ssec. Dividend, £15 2s. A protest was entered against the winner for inconsistent running, but was subsequently withdrawn.

From a splendid start Spider soon took command, while Reliance, who was slow to move, was last. Spider led round tho turn by the road, but the others were close up in a" bunch, and the field swept into the straight with little between the first and last horse. Here, however, Rosolla shot out and won easily by four lengths, St. Mark last. Time, lmin 17sec. Dividend, £2 sc.

Following her ladies in the Cup, Okoari dashed to the front, and passing the stand was almost clear of Explosion, with Daunt la-.1. Okoari was two lengths in front of the Cuirassier colt, and the latter was a similar distance in front of Ruby Twist, WJth Daunt a length further away. Much the same order was maintained along the back stretch, except that Daunt supplanted Ruby Twist in the third position. Neanng the road Explosion began to lessen the gap between him and the Taranaki mare, whileDaunt was also getting nearer to the leaoer. As they approached the straight, Okoari began to fall away, and Explosion went on in' front. Once in the straight Daunt set sail after Explosion, but despite the desperate efforts of Davis he could not get on terms with the Auckland colt, for Explosion, being driven along in real earnest by Gallagher, won a. great race by about a length and a-quarter, Okoari, pulling up, last. The pair raced together until'reach ing the hurdle opposite the stand, where Shyloek fell, leaving Sabreur to finish alone. Shylock was remounted, and cantered in. Time, 2min 58|sec. Dividend, £1 9s.

Glenogle was first away, but Jabber was left. Glenogle soon put a length between him and Courtier, while Jabber was, being ridden hard to get a position. After traversing a couple of furlongs Courtier was on Glenogle's quarters, and this pair came round into the straight together, but Mr Stead's gelding had all the best of the fight homo, and won easily by three lengths. Jabber was two lengths behind Glenogle, and Moreze a bad last. Time, lmin 13-ssee. Dividend, £9 9s. METROPOLITAN HANDICAP, Of 200sovs; second horse 20sovs, and third lOsovs. Six furlongs. 161—Hon. G. Titoki raced with Tupuhi to the road, where Brisa joined issue, and Ideal could be seen on the outside making up lost ground. Tupuhi was the first to cry a go, and then Brisa took charge, with Ideal close on her quarters. Brisa had to he shaken up at the distance :to stall off a challenge by Ideal, but eventually won by two lengths, with Female Franchise two lengths behind Ideal. Osborne was last to pass the post.
