(Received Jan. 2.3, at 10.15 p.m.) Navarre, handicapped at 9.0 in the Australian Cup, is evidently intended for Le Var, the West Australian champion. Early backers of Vigorous for the Newmarket Handicap are much chagrined at tha weight apportioned him, more especially as Mr Vowles, the Caulfield handicapper, considered him only entitled to 7.4 in the Oakleigh Plate. There is a marked difference between the handicaps issued by Mr Dakin and Mr Vowles for the respective events, the latter only allotting Stand-off 7.1 and Diffidence 6.8 in the five .and a-half furlong event; whilst giving Glendale 21b more than Mr Dakin in the lighter handicap. Revenue is handicapped at 7.11 and Acorn at 7.9 id the Oaklcigh Plate. Rek, albeit somewhat sore, has been displaying improving: form at Flemingtcn. In the Oakleigh Plate Blazer and Hymettus are top weights with 9.2, and Wakawatea'has 9.0. Vigorous was heavily backed for the tvewmarket Handicap before the weights wen declared.
