TAIAROA HEAD SCHOOL.

. The breaking-up ,of the Taiaroa Head School took place last Thursday evening. In the afternoon the children were given tea.in theVchoolroom, which had been decorated lor the occasion. The tables, which were beautiFully laid out by the oommittee of ladies, mrfudine the school teacher, with flowers especially forwarded from Dunedin for the accasioh, presented a" very; pleasing' appearance. Ample justice was done to the liberal supply of good things provided for the, children, about 46 being present, including several from the surrounding district,, they being well attended to by both parents and friends. who talco a considerable interest in the children's entertainments, etc. The performance given by tho scholars consisted of songs, recitations, star and Japanese fan drill. Both of. the latter were well received, and evoked loud applause for the youthful porformors and.romarks reflecting credit on their teacher (Miss C. E. Jones). At the conclusion of the concert'a distribution of prizes took place, each of the children receiving a. well-bound book, most .of them, owing to the liberality of the subscribers, being of a more than usually good class of books. The prizes having been presented, the room was cleared for dancing, a large number of both sexes'being present. The school teacher, presiding at the piano, provided the music in her usual able manner. Dancing was kept up until 3 a.m. There was an abundance of refreshments at suitable intervals. '
