Bine book, show that the Powers declined to cosree Turkey in regard to the cessation of Armenian massacres. Eussia and Austria declared that to do so would canse the outbreak of a European war. Lord Salisbury declared that isolated coercion on the part of one Power was impossible.

Ths trial of Mnrad Bey, on a charge of assisting the Young Turkey party, took place In iiis absence, he having fled the country before bis arrest could bs effected. Formal sentence of death was passed and his property ordered to be confiscated. It has now been ascertained that Murad is in Cairo, where he ia conducting a newspaper crusade against the rale of the Sultan, and he predicts the ovorthrow of that monarch within six months.
