Eight trucks loaded with dynamite exploded while being shunted at a siding in a suburb of Johannesburg, Every house within half a mile of the siding was demolished, the buildings in many cases being blown to pieces, while nearly every window in the town was smashed.

So far 40 dead bodies have been recovered in the vicinity of the accident, but this cannot, represent the total number of casualties, an the Bearch for the dead has hardly been started. Two hundred persons were severely injured, and the hospitals cannot accommodate all the cases. A large body of police is searching the rains of the buildings for the dead.
