A memorial is in course of signature to tha Minister for Justice praying for a remission o{ the sentence passed on Dr do R.nzi for assaulting the chairman of the Hospital Board. ■
Mr Justice Denniaf o-i to-day made the following statement in respect to a report appearing in all the daily papers here of his remarks in parsing sentence in the case of Drdo Renzi, the ,
substance of which report was telegraphed last nighfc :—" I notice that in the somewhat condensed report of my observations in passing sentence yesterday in the cass of assault I am represented as saying that *as accused was a medical man' the sentence would be without hard labour. My actual words were that, as in the case of a medical man, imprisonment involved in effectaheavy pecuniary fine, I should t.ke that into consideration in deciding not to inflict the additional degradation of hard labour. I mention this because I do not wish it to go abroad that I consider any class to be specialty privileged in such matters."
