NEWS FROM TAHITI.
(Peb United Press Association.) Auckland, February 18. News from Tahiti per the Richmond states that the natives of Raitea, Society Islands, are still holdiDg out agaiust the French, and desire British protection. They refuse to submit to the Tahiti authoritiea, and lately areeted flagstaff* with the British flag. The British Consul induced one place to take down the flag, bnt the others refused, and assembled, armed, in large numbers. A French gunboat was scut to Kaiteu, fired at the flagstaffs, and shot them away. The natives have tokea to the hills. It ia expected that fighting will ensue.
