JUVENILE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

It is intended to hold a grand juvenile industrial exhibition in ths Garrison Hall ia November next, which will be open to all school children and amateurs in and about Dunedia. The exhibition, which is under the patronage of his Excellency the Governor and. the Couatesa of Glasgow, is being organised by the Trinity Wesleyan Church, and the proceeda aro to be devoted to the renovation cf the churca and parsonage. The project is a distinat advance upon what is mup.lly placed bafore the public whan it is desired to raise money for religious or other purposes, and the promoters are to be commended for tha originality of the idea. The exhibitors are divided into four ef.ctionz—viz., under 12 years of age, between 12 and 17, between 17 and 25, aud all ages—and competition is invited, amougst other thiegs, for all kinds of paiating, drawing, wriliog, mapping, &c, c-irvinjj, modelling, and fretwork, collections of seaweed, shells, and various other thiugs, sewing work of nil descriptions, cookery from sconss to plum-puddings. There ia a large variety of contests, both vocal aud instrumental, and in the literary branch provision is made for essays on a variety of subjects,a sjecial section being confined to Sucday school work. Amateur photography and im-. prompta speaking have euch a place in the schedule, and tho various schools are invited to exhibit exercise and copy bo-iks, while there ia a cs*as for kindergarten work. There is also a competition in physical drill for schoolboys, and a prize Cor the best design of a certificate cf award, and, finally, a prize for the best aggregate exhibit from auy school. Altogether the. schedule comprises a surprising variety of items, ami almost any boy or'girl can find one or more subjects in which he or she may compete. The promoters intimate that the objects of the exhibition are to provide pleasant employment aud lecreation for leisure hours, to develop tUe skill and inventivp faculties of the young people, and !» provide means for giving the public .-.n opportunity of sesiDg the work done in our schools, aud generally arousing a deaper interest in that important branch of educational work.
