DNEDIN BURNS CLUB.
The fourth monthly meeting of the Dnce^in Burns-Club was held on Wednesday, thera being an ucusually large attendance of members and friends in the Cnoral Hal!, where the meetingtook place. Sir J. B. Thomson (president) occupied the chair. The eveniog's programme opened with a selection on the pipes by Sgaster A. Murray, in the absence of Piper Gray teQ choir, under Mr J. B. Fergnssoo, then contributing >'My Nannie, O" as a part eoag. Aulo. Robin Gray " was nicely susg by l\li*s Dow, and Mr Blenkinsopp scored a great success with his siDging of "Tell me, Mary how to wod thee," and had to give " Mary of Argyle"in response to an imperative recall.; Jilrs M'Robia was scarcely less" successful in her rendition of the " Braes o' Gieniffer," a portion of which she had to repeat. The Rsv Mr Tait gave aa address on " Scotch Character arid Nationality," whica was listened to with interest and elicited warm aoplause ; and Mr H C- Torrance's eong, "Aiton Water," found much acceptance. The Venetian quartet party, composed of Messrs Cox, Coggan, G. and H. Cameron, with Miss D. Cameron at the piano, pSayed a_Scotch selection, introducing several familiar airs, excellently, and were vigorously applauded. In response to an evident desire to hear some more mandolin music, they gave " 11 solitario," which met with equal favour. Miss B. Robertson sang "Jessie's draain" pleasingly, and Miss Henderson was successful in her vocal effort, "Jouky Daidies." Tha regaining vocalists were Mrs Murison and Mr J. Taon> son, both of whom acquitted themselves satisfactorily. " A hundred pipers," and " Jockie's ta en tha pairfcing kiss," by the choir," concluded the. programme, duriDg the performance of which Blrs J. Todd act«d as accompanist. At an interval in the proceedings a collection was made towards the erection of a statue to the memory of Highland Mary, at Dancon, Scotland, and the sum of £6 6s was raised. After the concert " Auld lang syne" was sung, and. a short dance followed.;
