At the Supremo Court to-day Gr. H'Laine, who had pleaded guilty to three oharges of forgery, was placed on probation for 12 months, and ordered to pay half the amount of the forged chsques (£7 10s) to the publicans who cashed them. His Honor commented on the extreme facility afforded for cashing chequed, and said he thought those who afforded auch facilities by recklessly payiiag away to strangers denerved to bear a share of the loss where the signature was a false one. Charles Henry Collins, charged with having stolen a cash bag containing £20 from the railway van, Amberley, was found guilty, with a recommendation to mercy on account of his youth. He was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, and ordered to restore the money. George Morson, charged with stealing £5, was sentenced to 12 months. John Bathke, charged with nfcabbing a boy at Lyttelton, was found guilty, but with a strong recommendation to msrey on account of the extreme provocation received. Accused was ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
