THE AUCKLAND SHOOTING AFFRAY.

(Peb United Peess Association.)

Auckland, February 20,

The case in which John Swarm wav charged with attempting to murder Hugh Campbell was dismissed, Magistrate Northcroft deciding that the evidence adduced did not disclose any intent to kill. Mr Northcroft said that all he had to decide was whether the case should go before a jury. The question was: Did Swarm intend to commit murder when he went to Campbell's offics ? Swarm was a tall, strong young mart, and with his finger on the trigger it would take a man twice Campbell's strength to stop him firing. If Swanu intended murder, Campbell could not have stopped him. The manner in which Swarm behaved after was conclusive proof of this view. It was, of course, a very foolish act on tha part of Swarm. In the struggle the other party might have been injured, or the ball might have killed one of the clerks on the other Bide of the partition. He did not think the evidence disclosed any intention to commit murder, and dismisssd the information.
