The Hon. J. Carroll addressed his constituents last night in support of the Government policy. A vote of thanks and confidence in the Government was carried unanimously.

Chkistchubch, January 25. Mr G. J. Smith, one of the members for Christchurch city, addressed a large meeting of his constituents to-night, and received a vote of thanks and confidence.

Oharles Murdoch, a middle-aged man, has been committed for trial for rape at Woodend on his neice, a girl of 18 yeare. The evidence showed that the accused came to the house about midnight on Saturday, the parents of the family being absent, and that, being refused admission, he burst the window, and it is alleged he then committed the offence. .
