FIRES.
?e«tetday morning a quantity of g owe and Droom caught fire at the top of Serpentine avenue, near William street. The City Fire Brigade proceeded to the spot, bnt before ' they managed to extinguish the flames apor. tion of the fence surrounding the residence of Mr Smith, matter of the High street School, was destroyed. On Thursday night Mr Henry Graham's general store, with dwelling house attached, at Arrowtown was burned down ; also the Arrow Athenseum adjoining it. The fire was believed to be accidental. Mr Graham's stock and furniture were insured in the Sooth British office for £650, asd his buildings in the Phrenix office for £100, and in the Commercial Union office for £200. The Norwich Union Company tad a risk on vie Athenaeum for £4-00.
