WOMEN'S FRANCHISE LEAGUE.

I At a well attended meeting of the executive and council of the above league held in the Young Women's Rooms, Mrs Hatton (the president) in tho chair, reported that at the next monthly meeting Mrs John Hislop would read a paper on the subject of '" Temperance Teaching in our Public Schools," and that Mr R. N. Adams (president of the Temperance Political Committee) would lecture on " The Effects of Alcohol on the Human System," as a sample of what the league consider should be included in the school teaching. The lecture will be illustrated by diagrams specially prepared for the purpose. The following resolutions were unanimously carried:—(l) "That, in consequeccs of the heavy work entailed upon the executive and membership during the enrolment campaign and the late general, mayoral, and licensing elections, the league wjll (after tho next monthly meeting) go into recess fir three months; the resumption of active work to be inaugurated with a tea and social meeting. The executive, in the meanwhile, to initiate and carry on all necessary work in view of the opening of Parliament, and to call the league together earlier in case of need." (2) "That, with respect to tho ' industrial exhibition' being promoted by Mr R. Clark, it was a matter the league could not take a practical interest in." Several new members were added to the roll.
