FRUIT AND PRODUCE REPORT.

Thomas Paterson and Co., fruit and produce agents, Manse street, report March 30 :— Market is well supplied with apples, which have slow sale ; but as soft fruits are about over, prices should improve with demand. Pears are in fair supply, and really good dessert sorts meet ready sale. We landed this week 80 cases prime Hobart pears, 100 do do from Canterbury, 150 do D.E. Tahiti oranges (first of new crop), 65 do tomatoes, 20 do plums. AYe quote :— Apples, ljd to 2_d per lb; pears, 2d to 3Jd; Tahiti oranges, 9s; Sydney do, 6s 6d to 8s; lemons, 15s, scarce; plums, 2_d to 3d; tomatoes, outside grown 2d to 2_d, hothouse 2_d to 3Jd ; grapes, inferior 6d, best 9d to IOd; bananas, 2d to 2_d. Dairy Produce, &c.: Eggs very scarce, and have risen 4d per dozen during the week. Fresh butter in only moderate supply. Prime salt sells readily at 7d to B|d, but inferior is hard to place. We have good inquiry. Pigs, good demand, 3d to 3_d. Bacon, in good demand, s_d to 6Jd for roll. Hams, 7d to B_d. Cheese: Akaroa, 3id to 4d ; factory, 4d to 4Jd. Potatoes: Derwents have weakened during the iast few days owing to increased supply coming forward, and may now be quoted at L2los to L2lss. Onions, L 3 10s to L 4. Peanuts, new lot just to hand. 2d to 2Jd.
