GRAIN AND SEED REPORT.

Messrs' William E. Reynolds and Co.,Staf-' ford street, report for the week ending 22nd Mavchas follows :-*'

The weather during [the week has been altogether unfavourable for harvesting operations, but to-day it loofcs like breaking, and we hope it will soon change for the better. Wheat.—Samples' of this cereal are arriving more freely, but so hx only a few lines have been sent forward. During the past week prices all round may be said to have receded slightly, and while speculators arc scarce, millers' are only buying for immediate requirements, at a reduction on last week's quotations. Growers, on the other hand, in most instances hole! firmly for late rates, and consequently the business doing is small. Cable advices from Home also print to prices there falling, but not to any marfewV extent. \Ve quote :—Prime velvet and Tuscan, 3s iOd to 4s 2d; ordinary, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; inferior an* fowls' feed, from 2s for broken to 3s 3d for whole, i Oats.—Since last reporting, the (Sanand for these is, if anything, better; only, we think, on account of arrivals being somewhat delated- by the unsettled weather prevailing everywhere.- The market is veiy bare of old oats, and uutil airalvals of the new crop increase materially, priwss are likely to remain firm. We would strongly oa^ise those who can to forward what they have threshed without delay, as prices are, we think, almost certain to recede somewhat in a few weeks' tu™?i To-day's quotations are: —Prime milling, Is 7«; good bright feed, Is CJcl (likely Is 7d); mediums Is 5d to Is 6d ; inferior, in but poor demand, la ltt tols4d. , . , Barley.—This is meeting with some little in- i quiry now, at for prime malting up to 3s 3d; ordinary, 2s 9d to 3s; milling and feed, 2s to 2s 7d; sacks, 6d, less 2^ discount for cash. Chaff. —This is not coining forward very freely, and prices are therefore high. We quote prime and well cut at up to 62s 6d; ordinary, 47s 6d to 57s 6d; inferior, 40s to 455. Potatoes.—The demand is rather better, and , arrivals continue small. Prime Derwents (but j few offering so far) are worth 62s O'd; other sorts according to quality; kidneys in but poor demand. '; Grass Seed.—Tho market for this seedjs in much ' the same position as when last reporting, and very little further can be said, except perhaps that the idemand from the north is hardly as good as it 'was, while on the other hand growers are not iaiclined to sell very freely at present quotations; i consequently there are not nearly so many samples goffering as there were a fortnight ago. We quote: Machine dressed, 3s 3d to; 3s 9d; clean farmers' Uines, 2s lOd to 3s 3d ; ordinary, Is 9d to 2s 6d, and hard to sell. Cocksfoot is- aiTmost without inquiry, and prices remain unaltered, viz:—Prime and well saved, 3|d to 4.} d-; ordinary,. 2£d to 3Jd.
