OUR VOLUNTEERS.

The annual meeting of L Battery N.Z.A.V., was held in the Garrison Hall, Port Chalmers, on the 28th ult., there being present Captain Waters (in the chair) and 35 members. The balance sheet and reports from the various committees were read aud adopted, showing the company to be in a highly satisfactory position. The election of office-bearers and committees was then proceeded with, when the following were elected •— Finance Committee — Commissioned Officers, Sergeant-major Young, and Gunner Watson; General Committee—The members of the Finance Committee, Corporal Casey, and Gunners Leaman, and Voisey; Match Committee—Sergeantmajor Young, Gunners Driver, Manning, Voisey ££_ ,-D, e,ncn' treasurer, Quarter-master-sergean t Mitchell (re-elected); secretary, Gunner Dench. The election of lieutenant was then proceeded with, Gunner G. D. Ross being unanimously elected. Several recruits were then sworn in. The Port Chalmers Naval Artillery fired their first competition for Mr Hislop's cup and trophies on Saturday, 30th; the conditions were seven shots at 200, 400, and 500 yards. Owing to the strong S.W. wind and rain the scores were very low. The following are the five highest :—
