BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.

MORNINGTON.

An ordinary meeting of the Mornington Borough Council, held last night, was. attended by Crs Horsburgh (in the chair), Scoular, Scott, Cahill, Randell, Page, and Densem.

The Finance Committee reported that the bank overdratt on the 31st of January was L 477 ls Hd and Ll7 had been paid into special account. The committee recommended that accounts amounting to Lll9 14s 5d be passed for payment.—The report was adopted. Mr May wrote stating that he would allow the council to continue the back line of their footpath past his property on" the following conditions ■— That the council slope the bank Ito 1; take down and re-erect fence; shift gate to upper corner * and give him the sum of L 6 as compensation; the kerbing rate to be paid by him; the council to bear the cost of alteration in the walk and give one load of screenings—The offqr was accepted, Cr Page dissentmg. Mr J. Henderson wrote drawing the council's attention to the condition of the drain in Preston crescent, which was too small to carry away the surface water. In consequence of this his property was being damaged. — Referred to the inspector to act.

Mr John Moroney wrote complaining that the road leading to his property was covered with weeds on each side to such an extent that the water channel was of no use, and the water flowed on the crown of the road, and during the late heavy rain nearly all the metal was washed away—Referred to the Works Committee with power to act.

Mrs J. Smith wrote asking the- council to reduce St. Annes road to its permanent level.— Referred te the Works Committee with power to act.

Mr A. J. Park wrote informing the council that the proprietors of the Belleknowes estate had adopted the stone wall as the boundary of the sections in the subdivision recently submitted to them and the pegs had accordingly been shifted to that boundary Ihe proprietors directed him to say that they-had experienced some difficulty iv obtaining a datum for the levels of the new street, which had prevented them from submitting them. They had, however, now obtained a datum which would give levels above sea level. 1 hey directed him to suggest that, in considering the adoption for a similar agreement to that with Mrs Matthews, a clause be inserted stating that levels and grades must be approved by the council. —It was resolved that the council meet on the ground with Mr Park's representative to discuss the matter generally; the town clerk to interview Mr Tiii'ton before the meeting Cr Scoular moved—"That the Finance Committee be authorised to pay off loan No. 8, due to Mary. Ann Elizabeth Hastings on the stii inst, and sign a cheque for the same." Cr Cahill seconded the motion, which was carried.
