MINING.
NOTES FROM REEFTON. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
Reefton, February 2.
The following report is from the mine manager of the Progress mine :—" I have got the reef in the cross-cut in No. 3 level. AYe have cut across lt sft and got very good gold. I have not got the footwall yet. It appears to be a big body of stone. Cleaned up yesterday. Result: 102oz retorted gold from 155 tons."
The manager of the AVaipapa Dredging Company reports, under date 2Sth ult., that the ground is looking very well both straight ahead of the dredger and to the sea side of it. Eightynine and a-half hours' dredging yielded 41oz IMwt of amalgam, of the value of about L4B.
