(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
Wellington, February 2. Gossip is still active as to the coming appointments to the Legislative Council. It is now alleged on authority, which is asserted to be "good," that Lord Onslow has promised Ministers to mako 15 appointments to the Legislative Council. The names formerly mentioned as those of coming Councillors are still declared to be right, and they include Messrs J. A. Tole (Auckland), W. C. Smith (Hawke's Bay), F. H. Fraser (Wellington), W. Montgomery (Canterbury), W. C. Walker (Canterbury), V. Pyke (Otago), Dr Fitchett (Otago), H. Feldwick (Otago), and seven others, among whom the Hon. E. Richardson (Wellington) and Mr J. Kerr (Nelson) have been mentioned as possibles.
