MR DONALD REID AND THE HIGH PRIESTS OF BAAL.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sin, —Perhaps you will allow me to protest against Mr Donald Reid's questionable taste in characterising the Ministry as the High Priests of Baal, and their supporters as satellites. It ill becomes Mr Reid, who has climbed into a good position on the shoulders of the working men of this colony to insult his fellow colonists by making use of such terms in describing them. According to Mr Reid every working man, every country settler (upon whom Mr Reid is dependent), and every intelligent colonist who supports the jiresent Government belongs to the followers of' Baal. At the Mackenzie banquet this inspiration of Mr Reid's was laughed at and cheered to the echo; but when he reiterates with so bad taste the opprobrious epithet, it entirely loses its point. Mr Reid is fully entitled to reply to the Minister for Lands in any fashion he chooses, but he is going too far when he insults his fellow colonists.—l am, &c, Balclutha, January 28. P. A. Joseph.
