A SOCIALISTIC PROPOSAL.
TO THE EDITOE.
_ Sir,—ln these days when Socialism is strong in the land, I wonder the question of free medical advice has never been taken up. There is no doubt that the great expense it is to obtain medical advice prevents thousands from having it even when necessary, and very many lives are lost yearly which would be saved were free medical assistance obtainable. To remedy this, let the doctors be paid by the State, and forced by law to attend everybody free of charge. To enable the State to do this a medical tax would have to be levied on the community. The doctors should be paid in this way : People should be free to go to any doctor they liked, and the amount paid the doctor by the State would depend upon the number of patients he attended and the nature of the assistance rendered.—l am, &c, St. Clair, January 28. Robert Paulin.
