OUR VOLUNTEERS.

The annual meeting of the Peninsula Naval Artillery was held in the Anderson's Bay Drill Hall on Tuesday night. There Was a good attendance of members, Licutendht'COiutoiander Carvosso ocdupyihg the Chair. Tbe balance sheet and report showed tile company to be oh a sound footing. The various elections were watched with great interest, and resulted as follow :—Secretary, Petty-officer Breraner (re-elected); treasurer; Lieutenant Carvosso (re-elected); General and Finance Committee—the officers of the company and C.P.O. Barrett and Gunner Gubbins ; Shooting Committee — Lieutenant Carvosso, T.O.s Ooxon, Bremner, and Newsome, Gunners Gubbins and hwmton ; Boating Committee—P.O.'s Coxon Bremner, Fairbairn, M'Gregor, and Newsome and bunners Gubbins and M'JCinlay; storekeeper (uniform and ammunition), P.O. Fairbairn. Ihe half-yearly meeting of the Dunedin Engineers Band was held in the Sussex Hall on 4, uesday evening; Mr It. Jackson in the chair llie following officers were elected:—Band sergeant, K. Jackson ; committee—J. CunimiDs, B. Pauiton, J. Ruston, C. Dickinson, T.Dickinson'■ auditors—A. Blyth, C. Dickinson; librarian George Dickie; custodian, C. W. Thuern ; secretary, Or. A. Perry. It was decided to purchase new uniforms as per sample submitted from Messrs Ross and Glendinmg. At the close 2i. iJ ne, ™eeting Sergeant Jackson, on behalf of the members, presented Mr G. A Perry with a gold albert and locket, suitably inscribed, as a token expressive of the appreciation in which his many valuable services were new by the band, and in admiration of his many excellent qualities as a man. The satisfactory position that the band had maintained was due ,o Mr I'erry s unflagging zeal ou all occasions and' jlie deep interest he took in its welfare.. Mr' Perry thanked the members for their present and lor the high opinion they held of his humble services. He could assure them that while he was a' member of the band, in office or out of office the jest interests of the band would be his own • and us exertions at all times on their behalf would he tor the purpose of increasing their popularity ahd: improving their position. ■ The final competition for the B Battery's belt wok place yesterday morning at 5 a.m. at the i"fc™ Ba7 range- The ranges were 200, 400?' and 500 yards; seven shots at each. The morning was dull, but clear, though the wind at the long ranges was changeable. The following were the highest scores :— 200 400 500 Captain Proudfoot ...
