THE WOOL SALES.

London, June 9. (Received June 10, at 11.15 a.m.) At the wool sales 14,000 bales were catalogued. There was a large attendance of buyers, and spirited competition. Good merinos and fine crossbreds are unchanged ; but medium and faulty merino 3 and coarse crossbreds are 5 per cent, below April prices.

Messrs Dalgety and Co.'s London office advice that the wool sales opened on the 9th, with a large attendance of buyers, and competition fairly animated. Prices, however, show a decline of about |d per ib in general, except for extra crossbreds.

I'ho British and New Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company have received the following cablegram from Messrs Helmutb, Schwartze, and Co., dated 9ih inst-.:—" The sales opened with a large attendance of both Home and foreign buyers. Competition is fairly animated. As compared with closing rates of last series, prices for merino and crossbred wools are at par to Ad lower. The total colonial wool available, including old stocks, is 345,000 bales."

Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house (Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co.), dated 9th inst:—"Sales opened with good attendauce of buyer?. Prices for merino and coarse crossbred have declined 5 per cent., and for fauliy descriptions of merino 5 to 10 per cent. For fine crossbred, market shows no change." Messrs Arthur M'Donald and Co. are in receipt of the following cable, dated 9th inst. :— " Prices are JJ per lb lower for al! descriptions except choice merinos and superior halfbreds, light in grease, which aro uuchanged." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London office, dated yesterday:—"Wool: The sales opened this day at level of lasb sales, except for coarse crossbred and inferior and medium greasy merino, for which market faster. The attendance of both Home and foreign buyers is normal. Competition by both Home and foreign buyers is active. The total quantity available, inoluding wool held over from last series, is 415,000 bales, of which 69,000 bales have been forwarded to the manufacturing districts direot."
