CHARITABLE AID. TO THE EDITOR.
Sm,— your article on the above was somewhat incorrect. Id both courts it was held that bofore a dititticli board could ba liiiblo for maintenance thu person must have resided iv such district for six months continuously. The question at iesu« was whether tha six moutLii' residence mentioned in tho net referred totbo six mouths immediately preceding the entry iuto the uoiv district or tho six months, before tbo rolief commenced. According to thfl Supreme Court decision the latter is the correctoonstrnetiori. Thus, if a person resides in a district for years and then leaves foe another district, and after a month receives relief, the former district is not liable on the ground that such person did not reside there for the six months immediately preceding the date when tho relief commenced.— I am, &c,
