FIRES.

At 5 o'clock yesterday morning a washhouse, valued at £50, and situated at the rear of dwelling houses in Royal terrace, occupied by James Todd and Alexander Struthers, was burned down. The firo is supposed to have been caused by some charcoal which was supposed to have no fire in it, being emptied on to some coal in the corner of the washhouse. A dwelling house, containing four rooms, occupied by Mr James M'Anergany, farmer, WiDgatui, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday morning about 1 o'clock. Mr M'Anergany went to bed at 10 o'clock the previous evening leaving the fire in the kitchen quite low. At 1 o'clock he was aroused by the smell of smoke and found the kitchen on fire. He succeeded in rescuing five children in the house. There were some clothes hanging about the fireplace, and it is supposed that these may have accidentally taken fire and communicated it to the woed. The house was insured for £120 and the furniture for £40, in the Equitable office.

A fire broke out on Wednesday evening (writes our Lawrence correspondent) in a stable beloDgiDg to Mr Thomas Barnett. Constable Daubnry was the first to see it. The building was totally destroyed, also a horse, two saddles and bridles, a set of spring cart harness, and sundries, the whole valued at £60. Mr Barnett has no idea how the fire originated. His son was tho last in tho stable. He had a light in a lantern hanging on the wall, and when leaving he put it out. The property was uninsured.
