MORNINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of this council was held yesterday evening. Present: The mayor (Mr John Gtindley), Crs Oahill, Campbell, Wills, Cuffin, Reynolds, Morrison, Giller, and Scoulnr.
The Inspector reported as to the various works that had been completed in the borough. The slaughter-house premises were fairly clean.—The report was adopted. Applications "were received from H. Hickman, Joseph Bryant, and Robert Warrington for permission to remove nlghtsoil, and the applications of Hickmau and Warrington were granted. The police were authorised to lay informations and prosecute in cases of breaches of the byelaws.
H. E. Chine wrote complaining of the state of the water channels in Patrick street.—Kesolved that the channels be kerbetl and pitched. Cr Cal-I-in' moved and Cr Giller seconded— " That, owing to want of funds, the services of John Halford, quarryman, bo dispensed with." — Carried; Cr Campbell dissenting. Cr CaFfin moved and Cr ScoulAu seconded " That a temporary reduction be made in the da\ man's wages to 9d per hour for three months from date."—Carried; Cr Campbell dissenting. The following notices of motion were given for consideration at next meeting:— " That, with a view to carrying out the continuation of the footpath in Glen avenue, the inspector be instructed to form a culvert; cost not to exceed £20." " That OtnfiMl street be remetalled and the water channels pitched, at a cost not exceeding £JO." Accounts amounting to £S1 !)s 7d were passed for payment. The buijk overdraft was reported to be £1210 7s sd.
