CAVERSHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of this Council, held last evening, was attended by the Mayor (llr \V. Brid_man), Crs Earron, Edmunds, U'Ken, Holmes, Cochron, Moss, Oilmour, Wilson, Calder, Btajg, land Broadfoot. A telegram was read from Mr W. Barron stating that the Hon. Mr Johnston bad given iintructions for postal delivery at Maryhill and Roekyjside, even sbould such an arrangement involve an increase of tha staff.—The communication was received, and the clerk was instructed to convey the thanks of the Council to Mr Barron for his exertions in the matter.

Joseph Woodford wrote statins- that a mistake had been made in his tender for forming and kerbiiiif footpaths in Edwin and Jojephini; streets, and asking the Council to allow an alteration of 10s per chain to bo made in the price.—Or U'Hex brought before tho Council the danger of allowing- any laxity in the matter of tenders once accepted, and the letter was received.

.Notice was received of the intention of Mr Jas. 11' Donald to sue the Council for the Bum of £0-4 for breach of contract re the supply of metal to the borough, and tho Mayor was instructed to take steps to defend the action.

A motion was proposed uv Cr Barros, and carried, |to the following effect:—" That this Council intends to ask power fruin the burgesses to borrow a sura not i exceeding £3000 for the purpose of providing a watersupply, on the security of ft water rate, as provided by clause 253 of 'The Municipal Corporations Act, 137(3.'"

A motion was proposed by Cr Moss and carried, confirming a jesolution previously passed re the division of the northern portion of M'Ulashan street.

Tho report of tho Wonss Committee was read, stating that having considered the Inspector's report as to the formation of Uankeilor, Broughton, and Waverley streets they had offered Mr 11. Hoaley the Bum of JIM to form those streets 10 feet wide and two feet high. The clerk ha I been instructed to call for tenders for CO yards of screenings for footpaths in Marion, Manse, and I'etcr streets, and the Main South iond j also for IMJ yards metal for Sydney street and 35 yardg for I'eter street. The Finance Committee reported that the sum ol meeting, and recommended that £210 Gs be passed for payment. Kcport adopted.

The Mayor's Committee reported that having considered Messrs Kcnyon and Hoskinij's letter on behalf of E. W. Cargill, they recommended the Council to write to Mr C. S. Allen that they intended to take steps to enforce compliance with clause 24 of "The Municipal Cori.oratiuna Act Amendment Act, IS7S,"| with reference to the streets in the first subdivision of

.-it. Clair township.—A resolution waa then carried by the Council to the above effect, and the report was adopted. The Inspector's report advUed the progress of various works in course of execution within the borough, and called attention to the condition of Corstorphine street from Manse street to Sir Sidey'a Kate; !60 yards of metal would be required to put it in repair.—The report was adopted.
