WAIPORI ROAD BOARD

The annual meeting of this Board was held in the schoolhouse, Lake Waipori, on Wednesday, 17th inst. Present-Messrs Duff (chairman), Mackay, Fieniinj, Petrie, llaepherson, M'Donald, Grey, Shenmau, and M'Bride.

The minute 3of former meeting were read and con firmed.

.Mr Duff was unanimously re-elected as Chairman. The Clerk read the balance-sheet, from which it appears that the following are the balances set opposite each subdivision:—Clarendon, credit balance, £43 12a ; Waihola West, do, £50 Is lOd ; Maungatua, debit balance, £10 4s Id. Circular from Colonial Secretary asking for retnni of amount expended in valuing property and making valuation roll for year ISSO.

Circular from Public Works Office relative to taking lands for public works under part 11, "Public Works Act, 1570."

Letter from Mr H. Bastings asking for permission to make an opening across the road, Clarendon subdivision, to allow water now dammed up to drain.— Letter leccived.

Memorial from 21 ratepayers, Maungatua subdivision, drawing attention to dangerous state of approaches to Fulton.'s bridge, main district road.—The members for tho subdivision were authorised to get same repaired, also a new rail put on bridge near M'lntouh'a corner.

Letter from Daniel Ileenan asking to hare the roadlino to hia place opened through Mrs Miller's and Mr Gordon's properties. Tho clerk wan instructed to write asking the latter parties to open up the road.

Letter from John Campbell, Woodside, asking whether the Board were prepared to recoup him folexpenses incurred through an accident owinir to the defective state of the approaches to Fulton's bridge.— Letter received.

Letter from several settlors, Maunifatua subdivision, asking that something be done 'to road between Matheson's ami Munro's, which was in an almost im-pas-abiestiite—lt was agreed that a surfaceman he put to work on the various roads in the Mamigatua subdivision fur one month, under the supervision ol I the member, for that subdivision.

Letter from R. M'lmloe, asking permission to lower, the level of a culvert on the main road near his home, he allowing the traffic to pass through his paddock whilst (loiiifr so. —Granted; the road to be left in a statejti'isfactory to the members for the subdivision.

Mr Petrie reported r.garJinf the Henley road that at present only a plank or two were wanted for one of the bridged.—Agreed, thatsime begot, and that any other matters affecting that road be left in the hands of Mr I'et.rie.

A petition, accompanied by a phn, was presented, signed by 14 settlers and landowners in the Clarendon subdivision, asking that a more convenient road he opened up connecting with the Berwick road, llr Lee smith appeared in support of tne petition.

Moved'by Mr M'Uridb, seconded by Mr Siik.v.win, and carried " That the matter lie ever tiil next meeting, with the view of ascertaining whit funds the sei-tlers can guarantee to assist the Board."

The clerk was authorised to advertise the closing of roads through Horseshoe Bush listite.

The next meeting was fixed for Saturday, Ist October, at 1 i-.in.

It was carried that notice be given—"That at next meeting the Board will fix a rate for the ye,r of la in the pound."

The tender of Mr It. M'lnrtoe for excavating ami forming in Clarendon subdivision aS lljd per yard was accepted.

Accounts to the amount of £55 103 3d wero passed for payment.
