WAKATIP HOSPITAL.

The Board of Management of the Wakatip Hospital met on the 3rd inst. Present: Messrs Rees (president), Broad, Bracken, Angus,. Beetham, O'Callaghan, Haughton, Gordon (hon.. sec). The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary laid before the Board copies of letters written in accordance with the resolutions of the last meeting. The following draft of a letter to the Provincial Treasurer, enclosing the certified balance sheet, was then submitted to the Committee r— " Wakatip District Hospital, "29th August, 1864. « Sir—Referring to previous correspondence on the subject ofthe balance of the grant-in-aid due to this Hospital, I have now the honor to inclose you a certified balance sheet, made up to the 3rd. Aueu't, being the conclusion of the first year pf the'existence of this institution. By ifc you will perceive that the LIOOO due it in collections from the public can be at once handed over, as the stipulations of the Hospital Ordinance havebeen fulfilled. " 2nd. I have ajso to request payment of an account rendered several times, for the Government's promised two-thirds contribution to the cost of erecting: a dead house, ami fencing around the reserve. The amount of these two items due by Government is L7llßs Bd. *,' Sid The Committee have instructed me ta request that the amount of the grant-in-aid be paid into the Bank of New Zealand. " 4th. Carried. A letter was read from Mr Prosser. Chemist and Druggist. Queenstown, complaining of a report in the Daily Times-, which set forth thafc the Resident burgeon had stated to the Committee that his (Mr Prosser's) set of amputatinginstruments were not complete. Proposed by Mr Angus and seconded by Mr O'Callaghan—" Thafc the hon. Secretary be instructed to write to Mr Prosser, stating that the report in the Daily- Times concerning the surgical instruments, is perfectly correct;, bufc that the Committee prefer taking the advice of their medical officer on the subject in preference to Mr Prosser's. . The President said that the next business before the Board was ths election of a paid clerk and collector-he would therefore request the Secretary to read the applications received for that office. Sixteen applications, accompanied m most instances by testimonials, were then submitted to the Board, anl after some discussion, it was decided to carry out the election by ballot; each member present writing the name of the candidate he deemed most eligible on a slip of paper, and handing itthe same to the President. The following was the result: — Mr. Manders, Queenstown v . 4 J. Johnston. Dunedin 2 j. Smith. Dunedin 1 Marshall, Queenstown 1 Mr Manders was. therefore, duly elected. Proposed by Mr Bracken, seconded by Mr Haughton -" That Mr Manders be required to find two securities of LSO, for the due fulfilment ofthe appointment." - Mr Manders having been sent for, was informed by the President of his election, and expressed his desire to do the utmost in his power for the benefit of the institution. Mr Beetham said that it had come to his notice that two young ladies, in fact very youDgladies, in the neighbourhood, had been for some time exerting themselves in collecting money for the Hospital—they now paid in a regular weekly sum. He thought some notice should ba taken of them. „ Proposed by Mr Beetham, seconded by Mr Rees—"Thafc a vote of thanks ba returned to the Misses Doyle and Contauche for the valuable services rendered by them as co! lectors.
