DEATH ON A FERRY STEAMER.

(Per Press Association.) Cliristchurch, October 21. A death occurred on the ferry steamer Slokoia early tin's morning. While tho vessel was on her way fr.om Wellington to Lyttolton a saloon passenger named Julia Stacc, 44 yeajs of age, belonging to Pahautauui, near Porirua, who had been committed at Wellington yesterday to the Ashbourne Hall Mental Hospital, Dunedin, joined the Mokoia at Wellington last night, in charge of her brother and married sister. She had been in charge of a nurse, n-ho put her to bed on board the vessel about 7 p.m., and administered a sleeping draught before leaving her in charge of her sister, who occupied the same cabin. The nurse did not ac"company her. " The patient passed a quiet night, but her sister found about six o'clock this morning that she had .died evidently not long before, ,as tho body was still warm. An inquest was opened this afternoon, but adjourned "for the production of an essential exhibit. '
