MAORI GIRLS' SCHOOL BURNT.

.vThe'Hukarere Maori Girls' School was totally destroyed by fire at six o'clock this morning. The building, comprising forty-' rooms, was very old, .and the flames spread rapidly, giving the girls barely time to escape in their night attire. The fire originated in the cloakroom on the ground floor; but the cause .is unknown. The cloak-room was locked last night, but when the fire was discovered the window was seen to be open. The school was established by Dr Williams, the first Bishop of "Waiapu, in 1875. The insurance is £IBOO on the building and £4OO on the furniture, both in the National office.' The girls lost everything."
