SWIMMING CLUB'S SOCIAL.
i The . Oamarn Amateur Swimming ; Club iiekl thoir annual social gathering , and presentation of prizes last evening in Mr Eartrum's tea rooms. The i 'resident of the Club (Or Douglas) occupied the .chair, and after the cus- ; tomary loyal- toast had boon honored, : he expressed pleasure that so much > youth and vitality had foregathered. 1 Although the weather was very cold, it was good that they should meet and ' fraternise with one another. By the ; courtesy of the masters of the schools t he had obtained data as to the number 1 of those who had learnt to swim the 5 length of the baths since they were " built, and he- was informed that the : number was 101. He congratulated " the Club on being greatly instrumental ' in this achievement, while he feliei- - tated the prize-wir.ners, expressed the 5 hope that those who were not euccoss--1 ful last season would meet with better j luck during the coming year. ' During the evening musical items " wore given by the following gentlemen : " Messrs Scantlebury, Liggins, E. F. " Armstrong, C. . Piper, S. J. Davys, s Frank Jones, F. C. Burry, and J. • Colenso. > A vote of thanks tp the President ' .for occupying the chair closed a very ' enjoyable function.
