CHARITABLE ASSOCIATION.

(Per Press Association.) Christchurch, August 31. At a meeting of the Christchurch Benevolent Association, held to-day, the Mayor presiding, a report was submitted,'which made the following recommendations: That an Association be set tip, to bo composed of representatives from each of the charitable institutions in the city of Christchurch, to be called the Christchurch Benevolent Association; that the special fnnctipn of the Association shall be to collect information respecting persons in need of or applying for charitable assistance, to prevent as far as possible the distribution of charitable relief to unworthy persons. The report was adopted, and there was a general expression of satisfaction that the Association had been fairly started. The opinion was expressed that it would prevent a good deal of overlapping in the distribution of charitable relief. It was suggested that the coal and blanket ftind should be administered through the medium of the Association.
