Lengthy evidence was taken on the establishment of a local industry, the name and nature of which was not disclosed. A. Andrews, bookbinder and manufacturing stationer, advocated the free admission of leather used in book binding, and the imposition of a substantial duty on manufactured stationery. E. P. Dombrain presented a petition signed by a number of farmers and station holders against imposing any duty on imported sheep dips.
