Received December 31, at 9p.m. Melbourne, December 31. Telegrams received in this city to-day announce the discovery of the bodies of three men at Clifton Hill, Thyrsus. It has been ascertained that the party which set out consisted of nine men, and a native search has been instituted for the missing six. The bodies discovered show that death resulted from thirst. The falling off is chiefly in the receipts for the land sales, the railway revenue shewing an increase on the same period of L 40,000. The total revenue for the year is L 6,250,000, beiDg an increase on that of last year of L 60.000. The demands of the laborers not having been acceded to by the masters, the men have definitely decided to strike work, rejecting a proposal for 48 hoars work per week. Altogether eight hundred and seventy men are involved in the strike. The shipowners are taking active steps to replace the men locally and in- o'her colonies, while the laborers rely on the support of various trade unions.
