“COMES HERE TO STEAL”
AUSTRALIAN CRIMINAL GIVEN A MONTH. . Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 10. Referring to William Morgan, a man of 38, who appeared in court to-day on a charge of attempted theft from a passenger on a ferry steamer, tho Senior Detective said : “This man lias a long criminal record. He is the gentleman who committed the most audacious burglary in Auckland in 1911, when he broke into Ivohn’s and stole a large quantity of jewellery. Ho went to America and, on being extradited, received five years’ hard labour, plus four years’ reformative treatment. However, ho had been working hard for tho past four years. His last sentence was a year for keeping a house of ill-fame. The accused is an Australian who comes here to steal, and when he gets caught he wants to be allowed to return to Australia.”
Mr F. K. Hunt sentenced Morgan to one month’s imprisonment.
