DON FRANCE BEATEN CLARK’S SURPRISE WIN. Par Press Association. PALMERSTON N., January 10. The Palmerston North tennis tournament Was continued in glorious weather to-day, when the eliminating rounds were pushed a stage further. Owing to the lateness of the New Plymouth and Auckland tournaments and Wanganui’s match with the New South Wales touring team, a number oi the leading players were late arriving, and in only a few instances did champions clash. The most important singles match Was when T. Clark (Auckland) met Don France and defeated him, 6—3, Three strong pairs, WilsonPark (Wellington), Clark-Itobscn (Auckland), and Haege-Malfroy remain to fight out the doubles championship. Mrs Melody and Miss Speirs should have no trouble with the ladies’ doubles, and these two players are likely to contest the final for the singles honours. To-day the New South Wales tourists will meet what is almost a New Zealand representative team, strengthened by the inclusion of HaegO (Victoria), in ait exhibition match. The following have been chosen to meet the tourists: —E. D. Andrews, P. Haege, Noel Wilson, Don France, Camille Malfroy, and E. T. Robson. FINDINGJORM AUSTRALIANS BEAT WANGANUI LOSE ONE MATCH. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, January 10. The New South Wales tennis touring team played Wanganui to-day. Some fine tennis was seen. The visitors lost only one match. The Wiairaropa Lawn Tennis Association to-night accepted the offer of the New Zealand Council for the appearance in Masterton on January 17th of the New South Wales team against a Wairarapa representative team. It was decided to secure the assistance of outside players, to strengthen the home team.
