PRISONER ESCAPES
FROM TERRACE GAOL AT LARGE LAST NIGHT. John Joseph Hansen, alias Jimmy Werata, a half-caste Maori, aged 21, who was serving a sentence of two years for forgery, escaped from the Terrace Gaol at 8 o’clock yesterday morning. At tne time of his escape he was wearing a pair of brown moleskin trousers, but his coat and vest were left at the goal. Hansen, who is described as a short thick-set man, ha# only been in prison for about a month. It was ascertained late last evening that he was still at large.
