CRIME PUNISHED
SENTENCES AT CHRISTCHURCH YOUNG MAN COMMITTED TO INSTITUTE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 23. At the Supremo Court the following prisoners were sentenced: John Ronald Lynch, 21 years of age, for burglary at Ashburton, reformative treatment for three years. Sydney Smith, burglary at Ellesmere, two years’ gaol and again declared an habitual criminal. Edgar Henrv ATiller, a letter-carrier, theft of chewing gum from a mailbag, jirobation f o r one year. In sentencing Selwyn Baker. 17 years of age, to two years in the Borstal Institute on five charges of indecent assault, Air Justice Adams said »t was his duty to protect young girl* from men who had not sufficient control over themselves. Counsel pleaded that the acts were tho result of a complex of ignorance.
