WHEAT FREIGHT

BIG DROP IN AUSTRALIA SERIOUS DEPRESSION Bv Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received March 10, 7.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, March 10. Since the beginning of the year the wheat freight market has steadily dropped and has now reached the lowest point seen for many years, probably since before the war. The outlook is very bad since there is a large amount of tonnage offering with little prospect of engagement. The seasonal winter depression promises to be the worst faced by the shipowners in the Australian trade for many years. The earlier season freight rate from West Australia was 40s per ton, while the latest steamer fixture was 26s 3d.
