GUNBOATS BOMBARD FORTS BRIDGE BLOWN UP Reuter's Telegram. (Reoeived March 10, 6.5 p.m.) PEKING. March 9. Feng Yu-hsiang’s army counter* attacked, and made considerable progress south of Tientsin, his apponenta withdrawing and not making serious resistance. Chang Tso-lin’s gunboats bombarded the Taka forts at the mouth of the river, on which Tientsin is situated. Foreign ladies at Taku were removed to Tientsin. Owing to the blowing up of the bridge from the coal-mines to Peking, the Mukden railway now holds only one day’s supply of coal, and the sales of coal are ceasing at Tientsin shortly.
