IN ENGLISH LAWN TENNIS F. M. B. FISHER’S ADVICE. fSydce. 'Sun” Cable! LONDON, September '2O. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher (New Zealand) declares that English tennis players lack the bright, alert, and vivacious sparkle inseparable with hardhitting play. What matter, he asks, if the player serve an occasional double-fault? It is not a crime. He has seen G. L. Patterson (Australia) serve six doublefaults’ in a single game and yet win that game. It was audacious, ferocious, and impudent tennis, but such storming tactics break the enemy’s defence. There seems to be a reign of terror among English players, who appeared to be afraid to adopt the hardhitting habit.
