AMATEUR SWIMMING
DISPUTE OVER CONTROL BRITAIN AND FRANCE FALL OUT. Per Press Association. GHRISTCHLHCH, August 7. The question of whether: New Zealand would be prepared to support Great Britain in ■’ proposal to sever connections with the International Swimming Federation waS considered at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association this evening. A letter was read from the Brit'sli Association in which it’was stated that France was endeavouring to secure complete control of the federation for Continental nations, and had so far succeeded as to exclude Great Britain of any of the British Dominions from representation on the bureau or governing body of tho federation. Upon the meeting of the federation arriving at this deci3ipn, the British representative had withdrawn, and had recommended to the British Association that it should cease to be a member of the federation. The British Association stated that it was writing to the Dominion Associations to ascertain what support it might expect from them in the event of its deciding to withdraw. It was suggested if withdrawal took plaoe ;hat an effort should he made to establish an English-speak-ing alliance, including America. A decision on the matter was deferred till the next meeting of the council, in order to give centres an opportunity of considering the position, it being pointed out that the action contemplated would mean exclusion from Olympic Games. At the same time the' view was also expressed that if Britain decided to withdraw, New Zealand would -.ritffdraw also.
