SLIPPED INTO RIVER
BCSRUBCUTTER BREAKS HIS NECK, V ; Per XVeas Association. CARTERTON, August 7; 1 Charles William Burke, a scrubcutter (52), met his death at the Ruakakapatuna river, Martinbqrough, Wednesday. He left camp on Monday, and, failing to return, a search party on Wednesday found the body in the Ruakakapatuna river with ttte nook broken. The approach to the bridge had become slippery, and dangerous owing to the wet weather, and it is surmised that deceased lost his, footing and fell over the hank into the river; breaking his neck. At the inquest yesterday a verdict was returned that death was due to a broken neck and drowning.
