TRAFFIC SUSPENDED

FLOOD IN BAY OF PLENTY RESULT OF HEAVY RAIN, Per Press Association. WHAKATANE, July 23. As the result of heavy rain inland, the Whakatane river was in flood this morning, and overflowed its banks. The roads to Opotiki, Matata, and Rotorua are under water, and traffic to these parts has been suspended for the time being. The river is now rapidly subsiding, and it is expected traffic will be resumed to-morrow. _ Although the Rangitikei river has risen, it has not overflowed. None of the farm lands of the district have been flooded.
