REJOICINGS IN THE RUHR
FOREIGN OCCUPATION ENDED MONARCHIST FLAG HOISTED. Reuter’s Telegram. * (Received July 22, 7.25 p.m.) BERLIN, July 21. The ringing of church bells, the blowing of trumpets, and general rejoicings in the streets of the Ruhr at midnight greeted the end of the Fran coBelgian occupation. Enthusiastic crowds in Bochum and Golsenkirchen sang patriotic songs. The hoisting of a black, white, and red flag above a hotel in Bochum led to a conflict between the Republicans and the Nationalists, the former demanding the removal of the flag. The police arrested several people, and peace was restored after the proprietor, at the request of the police, removed the flag.
