INTO LAMBTON

MANAWATU LINE PASSENGERS. Asked recently by Mr W. H. Field if he could arrange to run all passenger trains, except mail trains and expresses, into Lambton Station, the Hon. J. G. Coatee said yesterday: “This matter has received very careful consideration, hut, with every desire to meet the request, I regret to 6ay that it is not a practicable proposal. I need hardly point out that while the construction or the now station and yard is in progress any additional traffic which would add to the number of trains which have to be dealt with at Lambton Station would have a very serious effect in increasing the difficulties which must necessarily arise in carrying on the ordinary services ■ while the new work is in progress. The desirability of dealing with the whole of the Wellington passenger traffic at one station is fully recognised, and in carrying out the work in connection with the new lav-put no effort will be spared to make the station available for the whole of the passenger traffic at the earliest possible moment.”
